1: *wakes up, shocked to see audiences*
I’m Sammy, I’m 8 years old this year. Welcome to my house! Take a look at my toys. This is my bed, by big big wardrobe *reacts* Oh, Mummy is rushing me to brush my teeth and quickly go have breakfast. She’s probably waiting for me. Fast fast fast! *runs downstairs*
2: Mum: Sammy boy why were you taking so long? Your pa is going to work already. Here’s your lunch dear. Your working till late again today? Alright, do your best to be home early, your son will try his best to wait up for you. I love you *kiss*
Dad: You’re a good boy son. Daddy will do his best to come back early to play with you ok! Don’t sleep too early today, wait for me *kiss*
Boy: Bye daddy I’ll try! Pa is the best. I always tell mummy he is my hero, he buys food for us, mummy even says he buys this house! And when I have to see the doctor sometimes, he is always there with me.*munches* this is good mummy!
Mum: Its great you like it *takes plate* Ok then run along. *reacts* Go outside and play? Come on Sammy I have told you many times when you can I will let you go. No, don’t argue with me Sammy. Have you took your medicine? *silence* No just don’t think about it, the pain will go away soon. Run along
Boy: Mummy doesn’t allow me to go out and make friends..She doesn’t talk to me about the pains I have in my head, she says everyone has pains once in awhile. I don’t see her or daddy feeling pains though.. But its ok, I don’t care about it much. Oh well, I shall play by myself then! Lets see, what shall I be today…A magician! Oh no that’s yesterday..* thinks* Yes a story teller! Today, I will tell everyone the story of little red riding hood.
Once upon a time there lived a little girl named little red riding hood *takes scarf* Hello! Im RRH.*makes ringing sound* What’s that? A call? No worries mum ill get it.
One the other end of the line, it was her granny

But on her way there, RRD did not notice that there was a wolf nearby
Wolf: My gosh! *gasp* those 3 little pigs were not giving me a good time. Not only am I out of breath, the last pig tried to cook me! Worst thing is I AM STILL HUNGRY! *sulk. Notices RRH* A little girl..Alone.. NICE! Hello hello beautiful. Where you heading to? Granny’s place? Where is it? Over there? *licks lips fantasizing* Oh yes. Hello its nice to meet you RRH. RRH: Who knew there were so many friendly strangers in these woods! *walks* Here I am! *knocks* Hi granny its me! Oooo Granny..You look so different. What big eyes you have. What a big nose you have. What.. Eww your breath stinks granny

And all of a sudden, RRH realized that the figure on the bed wasn’t her granny but the big bad. I mean good PING! Wolf.
RRH: *freeze-unfreeze* Ahhh! But good thing I learnt taekwondo when I was young. Hai hai hai! And then, she killed it with an axe! Where's my axe?
A: Here you go!
Boy: Hello friend! What are you doing with my axe
A: Can i play with you?
Boy: of course you can! Hey, where have you gone to. Friend?
Sammy: Morning mummy! Yes I feel ok, why do you keep asking. Actually.. My head feels a bit..*stares* nothing Mummy..*eats* Mmm..Mummy, why can't i go outside when other people can?
Mum: Good morning my dear. You feeling ok? Soon boy. Oh.. Nothing really. Why can't you.. Soon boy. One day, you’ll go to land where there are many other people who wants to meet you, play with you, be your friend… When? oh..Sammy..you’re done with your food I see. Let mummy take this for you. Ok go ahead and play..
3: Mummy doesn’t allow me to step outside. And she doesn’t explain why..*looks out* Wow.. If only I could be out there. With all the trees. They look so.. Peaceful. And there are so many people playing outside. They always have other people to play with them, make them laugh. I don't see why I can't have friends. I mean, they can. And I'm just like them. Aren't I? Oh well. Since i don't have anybody to play with i shall play with myself again then. What am i going to be today. I’m going to be..Yes! I’m going to be Indiana Jones! Ello maties! I’m Indiana Jones and today, we’re going to find buried treasure. In my adventures, I walk through forests, mountains, deserts. We’re going to have to search the great edges of the world. Through the woods *action* up the cold cold mountains, and down *action* through the hot and thirsty deserts. Hey look, there’s a cave over there. *crawls* Yes, there it is. The crystal skull.. I’ve never seen anything like this before. Let me touch thee..Yes…. Uh oh *looks around walls falling* The roof seems to be crrruummmblInggg!!!
*Person x, from darkness, only can see hand coming out from the dark*
B: Friend, grab my hand!
Boy: are you really my friend? * smiles, Hand disappears. Jumps to grab hand. Blackout*
4: Mum: Its running low, you have to go there and get more medicine, its the only thing keeping Sammy at bay. Oh Morning Sammy *stares at dad acting normal* Nothing, just about some. Work stuff. Goodbye dear, try to come home early today ya
Boy: But I don't feel so hungry..Ok mummy.. And the plane flies up and down, its going a little too fast. Hey, daddy forgot to close the door..Mummy..? *mum’s busy doesn’t react. Mesmerized by what’s outside. Rushes off*
Mum: *Back facing boy* You must take your medicine k boy. So you wont always feel sleepy..*turns while saying. Notices disappearance* Sam? *searches house* Sam?? Nooo! *runs out to chase him
5: *puppet is introduced. Soundscape of people playing in the park, cars. Puppet notices surroundings*
Boy(puppet): Wow…This place is so big… Its exactly how I thought it would be like. The air here, its so warm. And the trees.. Wow. People are waving at me!Hi!!!
A: Come play with us
Boy: Really? Can I?
B:Of course you can!
Boy:Ok! Hi I'm sammy
A: Hi Sammy Im Jacob!
B: Hi Im Mary!
C: Im David! We're playing catching, now you're it!
*children plays catching laughing aloud in the soundscape*
Boy: Hi mummy! Look look, this is David, and Mary.. *cough* And this is is.. is Jacob.They are my friends. Can i play with them for just 5 more minutes mummy, please?
Mum: But Sammy.. You.. Alright Sammy, 5 minutes
*Play skipping rope, play ball - Soundscape and Mendelson plays in the background*
Mum: You had fun Sammy? *nods head* Oh, Mummy is not crying. Come, lets go home. Alright Sammy, take your medicine. Have some rest ok.. Mummy loves you so so much
Sammy: Thank you mummy. Did you remember how my friends look like mummy, we were so happy. I caught all 3 of them. And I.. I.. *yawn* I feel tired mummy.. I feel..
6: *doctor comes in to see puppet* Doctor: Its seems your sons condition is worst due to the exposure to viral atmosphere .. Now the cancer has spread to his respiratory system, I’m afraid he does not have long left.. I’m sorry to bring you the bad news ,Fred it does not look good. *strokes puppet* I will give you a few more minutes
7 : *Notices the area. Sees a hand and walks towards it* Where am I? Have I been here before? Mummy, daddy, I think the lights aren’t working again *dim*
8: Dad: Daddy and mummy loves you a lot Sammy *silence, remembering*.. Remember on your 5th birthday, You asked for a pizza instead of a cake for dinner. You specifically asked to put 3 candles on the pizza. And when mummy asked you why, you told her that your birthday was not a day in celebration for you, but a day to celebrate your parents for giving birth to you. You said if your birthday was not a day to thank the people who gave life to you, then it would be meaningless. You are the happiest thing that’s happened to us. What would life be without you
9: *hand reaches out from the dark*
Boy: Hi daddy! Yes my birthday. Where are you daddy? Without me. Am I dead? Does being dead feel like this?
A: Do you want to be my friend? Come with me
Boy: Hi! Are you really my friend? Why must I go with you. But mummy and daddy aren’t here
C: Yes, Mummy and Daddy know that you're with us Sammy.
B: Its all going to be ok

10 : Mum: Sorry boy we should have told you.. Mummy was just trying to protect you. I'm sorry Mummy couldn't give you a normal life, the life where you could be with all the children out there. You just wanted to be like the others. You told mummy before, if you could, you would want to become a pilot. Because you said that the pilots on tv get to go around the world, and meet everybody. You wanted to bring mummy and daddy to meet all the new friends you would make from everywhere.. Mummy misses you Sammy, so much. So so much.. You'll be in Mummy's heart forever. I love you
11 : *Sx; 3 heartbeats* Boy: Hi Mummy. Don’t be upset mummy, why are you crying? I’m ok mummy! This place feel nice. I’m happy here mummy!

Solo Flight 4 - Lonely Sammy (19th and 20th october 2011)

Synopsis
Lonely Sammy is a story about a boy named Sammy, who never had any friends before, and how he eventually manages to find one. The first 2 short acts shows introduces the home of him, his mother and his father, and how Sammy never fails to ask his mother when would be the time she would allow him to go out and play with the other children. Slowly, we find out that Sammy has cancer, in which its' terminal stage would be activated when he is exposed to viral atmosphere. This is shown in the scene where Sammy actually wanders out of the house in curiousity when the door is being left open. There, he played with some children but was soon caught by his mother. Going back home was when we see his condition actually getting worst, and how he eventually passes on with him walking towards figure only with her hands shown, who wants to be his friend.
Pupose of performance and objectives
The story started out as a manifestation of random thoughts and themes, such as innocence, hope and also family. From there, I did mindmaps and brainstorming on the possibilities of a story revolving about a boy who wants to find friends, and how it would be impossible for him to.
Once i had the story down, upon re-writing and redrafting, I have worked around the lines on capturing the truthful emotions and thoughts of individal characters, and my main goal was to show the people how each character felt about the whole situation. For example, a mother with a son having cancer would not be sad and crying everyday, but actually after some time would choose to see it as a clock moving backwards, and how she would want to give her best and be happy for her son while he's still around. My second goal was to give people the sense of irony of the entire situation, on how the only way Sammy would live his fulfilling happiness was to actually meet friends, however upon achieving that, he would not be able to live. Thus it would let the audience ponder and bring up a debate on which choice would be best, for him to live longer or to go out and make friends. And lastly, I also wanted to induce emotions in the audience, with the use of themes like family and innocence. On how hard it was for the mother to let his son finally be happy for once in his life, knowing that he wouldn't have long after giving him that chance. Also, I have a scene that is just focused on Sammy's happiness and joy when given the chance to meet other people.
Problems and solutions during rehearsal process
During the 2 month rehearsal period, many challenges came up cause mainly being me not ever have any experience with writing a solo show before, furthermore having me to direct it to a certain extent and also designing designing my own lights and my own sound.
Firstly, because my play is very realistic, I cannot afford to make caricature character choices. Thus, I have to put more work into individual characters, adding in many small tiny nuances. A small change in walking posture might not seem much. However, if combined with many different other factors like how far one step is being taken and internal rhythms and pacing of each characters and just having different thoughts and gesture anchors, it can make a whole lot of difference to a single character and how it is being portrayed. This is one of the biggest learning points throughout my entire solo flight journey.
There was another issue I faced too. Due to the 4th wall being put up in my play, everything I do on stage alienates the audience. That may have me fall into a hole where I am doing my own thing on stage leaving the audiences unengaged. Thus, I have to constant pump myself up to bring out a very high energy on stage, which was very effective in drawing the audiences in after recieving very good feedback from my peers from the first night. The biggest issue was to raise the energy during the emotional bit, where I tend to get too engrossed with the emotional depth of the character, I lose my voice resonance. Thus, being intimate with the audiences was one of the hardest things for me. However, I felt that i pulled it off on the first night, having feedback from many of my peers that they cried and felt sad for Sammy, a lot more than the second night.
What I would have changed
If i were to submit this performance as a professional show,I feel script wise, I could have done more research on how families with terminally ill patients cope in their everyday lives, perhaps through interviewing. This would have given me more 3 dimensional characters for the mother and father. I would too put more intensity in the moment where the doctor breaks the new to the parents when Sammy was about to die.
However that being said, with this being a learning experience and not a professional show, I feel that I have learnt a lot, and am happy with the results, with feedback from my peers, teachers and friends.
Expectations met, and further improvements that could be made
I would have definitely done more with the script as mentioned above, giving more intensity to certain moments, and also adding more fun moments too, to show the audiences more of the innocence of a young boy.
On the technical side, because of the short time give, specific lights couldn't be rigged to certain areas where I wanted. Thus, I had to make some changes to my blockings to cover that, affecting the play a bit. However, I am very proud of my sound design as it is an essential element in the peice. The same peice of music Mendelsson appears twice in the play, one when the boy finally made friends, and the other when he died. This successfully made a connection in the heads of the audiences on how him dying was not a totally sad thing, which I feel is what touched them the most. Thus, I find that it worked up to m expectations.
And finally acting wise, I feel that I could have more training in the Sammy puppet I was handling. Due to the lack of training, the puppet did not feel like it was as alive as I wanted it to be, and if not for the same blue shirt I was wearing, the audiences would not have been able to tell that it was suppose to be Sammy. Also, the energy of the second night was very inconsistent. Therefore, it did not shine as well as the first night. I feel that perhaps if more work was put into each character as mentioned, the performance would have had a bigger impact.

After all that being said, I thought I did very well for this solo flight given the feedback from others. No doubt it is nowere near a professional show, I feel that working about the negative feedback give and keeping the things I had positive feedback for, I feel this peice has a lot of potential.
Looking at it as a student project and a learning experience, I feel that I've learnt and grown a lot from it, and because I might never have another chance to write and perform my own solo show ever again, I really appreciate and have enjoyed the entire process.

Solo flight next week on 19th 20th october, then its 2012 and then we're graduated, and then we'd be dead soon later. So sad! Info, Xuxu and i were together from 2nd feb 2009 to 2nd dec 2010.Find her and still slept with each other till around July(read messages to find out not very sure too)

Kelly with with me since about 11 years old to last year 18 years old, passed away on 19/12/2010. I golden retriever, my best friend in the world suffered from water retention. Didnt want to put her down when the stage was critical. We sent her home and she lived for about 2-3 months before she passed away in our garden- 27 waringin walk- peacefully, when the family were in USA oblivious to the situation. I pray that her consiousness has been converted hopefully to a higher being, and perhaps knowing and watching me type this now. I love you Kelly

Reason i want to even type this is because i've realised that great significant moments in your life need to be treasured and book dictionaries can be thrown so why not online, noone cares about this blog here and i can read it once again no matter how old am i. Anyway he thing i want to highlight is, now at this point of my life im solo flight-ing, little Sammy. A great peice in which i really have faith in, to hopefully touch the audience and make them cry. Also, in MD1 i have made pretty good friends with Tan Huan and Ziyi(lao da jie) in which we went lunch 3 days ago (Sat) and earlier on with ziyi rong rong md2 bruce snoey and snoey 16 year old boyfriend.wtf. Yes you had a good time, epecially after teling the xuxu story of how much her mum loves you and you guys went to drink and karaoke and how hanging out with china people again gave you that family feeling. Yes it was fun. Eating in geylang taking pictures, sure hope can hang out together a lot more since im graduating in less than a year. FUCK.

Wuz a great great lucky week fer dear ReplayZ,as Maisul's mum got 8 free tickets ta der zoo,and Cohen had been planning it fer a loong time..Cez' of that,i wuz forced ta miss ndp training..hey i couldn't do 2 right things at one time so i chose ta stay brotherhoody ta my buddies..Ok fine thats not really much of an excuse..SHUT UP

So it started off with reaching Cohen's place at around 11.30,and got free lunch in courtesy of Maisul's kind beautiful mum getting us rice chicken and mutton from some best in sg place..Wuz really good fer my weight gain diet,wuz really filling but not really sure if it worked out fer Maisul

Then then we took a cab an hour after that (after gaying) ta pick up der reserve..Htoo wuz on a cab on his own so who gives a shit..Reached der damn zoo at 3 thanks ta sg's great efficiency of cabs and cab steals from a few lifeless cab stealers in bedok..Fuck those nifty buggers and burgers..
